Jason would happily consider a visit to your school to speak about Redwoods or any of his other books. He has presented to and taught classes from kindergarten to middle school and can tailor his presentation to meet your needs.

Jason's Redwoods presention includes a reading followed by a Q & A about redwood trees. After the discussion of the trees, Jason presents his artwork and talks about the illustration process. Finally, he wraps up the presentation with a drawing exercise or drawing demonstration. The whole presentation runs between 60 and 90 minutes, and can be modified where needed.

Past visits (for other books) have included presentations on:

• Chinese New Year
• Volcanoes (specifically Krakatoa)
• The book making process
• The life of an author/illustrator

Here are two example lesson plans:

• Group book illustration: How did the chicken cross the road?
  In this lesson plan each student learns about the illustration process as they illustrate an answer to the question, "Why did the chicken cross the road?" In the end, their illustrations are bound together into a book.
• Illustration process presentation
  This presentation I explain my illustration process, using examples from my latest book. The presentation covers a variety of topics including: where I got the idea for the book, the research involved, how I make the pictures, and how the book is finally printed and bound.
